PCAT Names Sylvia Uriegas 2023-2024 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cypress, Texas, — On Monday, April 15th, 2024, Sylvia Uriegas of Uvlade CISD was named 2023-2024 Statewide Bus Driver of the Year by PCAT in recognition of her service.
Now in its 20th year, the PCAT Bus Driver of the Year program recognizes drivers based upon multiple driver attributes including Leadership, Attitude, Perseverance, Student and Parent Relationships, and Technical Skill.
This year, sixty-five PCAT drivers have been honored as their District’s 2023-2024 PCAT Bus Driver of the Year.
The 2023-2024 PCAT Statewide Bus Driver of the Year award that was presented to Ms. Uriegas is presented to just one PCAT school district bus driver and represents the highest level of dedication and accomplishment.
Craig Pruski of La Vernia Insurance Agency presented Ms. Uriegas with the Statewide award on behalf of PCAT. The award included a $1,000 check, a Statewide Bus Driver of the Year 20-oz. tumbler, a Statewide Bus Driver of the Year tote, a commendation, and an engraved plaque from the PCAT Bus Driver of the Year program. A plaque commemorating Ms. Uriegas’ achievement was also awarded to Uvalde CISD.
Ms. Uriegas says she is “honored with this award”, “it’s an amazing honor,” and that she is humbled by the recognition. Ms. Uriegas has been a bus driver with Uvalde CISD for nine years. She is recognized by her peers as being helpful and willing to do whatever it takes to help her department and fellow drivers, with a smile. When called upon to help students, Ms. Uriegas has demonstrated she will go above and beyond a bus driver’s regular duties to do whatever it takes to help Uvalde CISD students.
“School bus drivers play such a very important role in the education of our students. Learning so many of their stories over the years, we continue to be moved by their selfless care for the children, families, and communities they serve. The school bus continues to be the safest mode of transportation to and from school, due in large part to the skill and dedication of those who operate the buses,” said Aaron Ramsey, Director, Loss Prevention Services Group. “At PCAT, it’s our privilege to support Members in honoring the valuable contributions made by our school bus drivers.”
